Bosnia and Herzegovina
has a long tradition of organizing business associations

In this regard, over time, the same or a similar path has been followed as in most European countries. Based on the model of public-law associations, chambers of commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina appeared almost 100 years ago. Following the Austrian legislation, the Trade and Crafts Chamber was established in Sarajevo in 1909.

The Law on Unified Chambers of Commerce of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1962 established the Chamber of Commerce of Bosnia and Herzegovina with its headquarters in Sarajevo, as well as regional chambers for the following regions: Sarajevo, Bihać, Banja Luka, Doboj, Mostar, Tuzla, and Zenica. All further development of regulations on chambers of commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina maintained the model of a unified general chamber.

During 1998/99, in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cantonal chambers were constituted as a result of the transformation of existing regional chambers.

On November 11, 1998, the first elections for the Assembly of the Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton were held. The first constitutive session of the Chamber Assembly was held on December 16, 1998. The first constitutive session of the Chamber’s Management Board was held on February 9, 1999.
